Spring is upon us and so is Q2! Crazy to think that a whole quarter of 2023 is almost gone and tomorrow is St. Patty’s day. I am sorry but wasn’t it just Christmas? Sheesh.  One thing that does seem to drag on forever is the conflict between the west coast International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and the waterfront employers; they have been in formal talks with employers for more than 10 months. The ongoing negotiations and uncertainties are still a huge turn off for importers to rely on the west coast ports. With the stalled negotiations, there is a possibility for the ILWU to work with the East and Gulf Coast port employers on a new six year deal (the current contract ends at the conclusion of September 2024), but no formal discussions have been scheduled.  https://www.joc.com/article/north-american-longshore-labor-talks-span-coast-coast_20230315.html

Reminder: If you made the March 16th noon cut off to join THE MADNESS with Port X Logistics in this year’s March Madness Bracket Challenge, this year’s winner will receive a SWAG BOX with some cool little extras inside.

Import TEU Volumes are down this week 25.56% from last week. Experts say things will get better with Q2, but import volumes will still remain well below 2022. The below shows import TEU volumes in Q1 in 2023 are half of Q1 in 2022. With a drop in volume and a drop in ocean and drayage rates, many shippers are back to the negotiating tables, but it is uncertain how long spot rates will remain low.
