The News – Who’s hot, who’s not?

Hot

Charleston is forecasted to have a pretty big spike in container volumes next week.  We will be on the look out for what that means for available chassis.  Our team suspects that 20 footers will be in short supply, so get orders in early!

Norfolk will remain busy next week as well.  Same chassis situation is happening in Norfolk.  VIG is short on all chassis types.

LA and Long Beach will see some increased volumes as well.  We have our eye on the AB5 issues.  Will capacity be squashed?  Will there be protests and slowdowns like in Oakland?  It remains to be seen, but we are providing daily updates.  Also be aware that we don’t think the rail dwell times will be getting better anytime soon.  In fact we suspect they will get worse.  If you have time critical cargo we recommend diverting it from rail to transload.  The average rail dwell is over 11 days and we have seen instances where it has been over 30 days.

NY/NJ looks like volumes will be relatively low based upon our FreighWaves Sonar data.  Will this reprieve allow empties to get terminated and things cleared up OR will there be less vessels coming in to put empties on?

Miami had a huge spike this week, but looks like there will be a big dip next week.
