I returned last night from a rainy week in Long Beach, and I’ve been reflecting on the changes and challenges we’re facing. When clients asked if things are getting better, the answer is, well, kind of. On a positive note, we’re now finding it much easier to get cargo out, on the road, and moving. This improvement is a welcome shift and demonstrates progress in our operational efficiency.
However, the situation with empty containers remains problematic. Many terminals continue to require dual transactions and appointments to terminate empties, which adds complexity to our processes. Additionally, the reduced import volumes this week due to Chinese New Year have compounded these difficulties, creating further obstacles in yard storage and space management. The potential for increased per diem charges is another concern that persists.
Despite these challenges, it’s encouraging to see that cargo is still moving and that we’re making strides in other areas. It was a great week working on our office expansion, which promises to enhance our capabilities and service offerings. I had the pleasure of meeting with several clients, enjoying a fabulous dinner with our LA team, and engaging in valuable collaboration at the TPM conference.
Overall, while we continue to navigate these logistical hurdles, the progress in cargo movement and the productive interactions with our team and clients are bright spots. We’re committed to overcoming these challenges and ensuring smooth operations moving forward.
