Organically Evolving Our Tech By Solving Logistics Problems

2 minute read

“Uncertainty. The best logistics companies thrive on it. It’s why we’re Port “X” Logistics– because we can handle any variable in the supply chain.

We do it, famously, by leaning on our pillars: culture, service, tech and trucks. But our pillars don’t stand alone. Rather, together, they form the strong foundation we thrive on.

Although tech is my purview, it’s impossible to talk about Port X Logistics tech without talking about the culture that makes it possible, the service we strive for, and the trucks that put our cutting-edge tech stack into action. It’s only by working with our entire team, from operators and customers to vendors, drivers and more, that we’ve been able to build a tech stack that does the impossible and makes drayage a flexible part of our customers’ supply chain.

To illustrate that point, let’s look not just at the tech itself, but how key pieces of our tech stack came to evolve:

Problem: Customers told us they need a “plug-and-play” drayage solution that adapts to uncertainty in the entire supply chain.

Solution: Our desire to provide the best possible service drove us to develop a better way to plan for uncertainty before containers arrive at port. We partnered with OpenTrack to monitor the location and status of import cargo well before it reaches the U.S., often from port of origin. This intel helps us expect the unexpected, and we pass that intel and prep work along to our customers to make them look like heroes to their customers.

Problem: Drayage is the “black hole” of the supply chain, with little visibility and a lack of reliable options across markets.

Solution: Port X Logistics services every major port and rail terminal in the U.S. and Canada, all while streaming critical updates and data directly to our customers in the process. We even provide real-time photos of transloads right from the warehouse thanks to a partnership with CargoSnap and a coordinated effort among our nationwide network of warehouses.

Problem: Fraud and cargo theft threaten an already-fragile supply chain with even more uncertainty.

Solution: Thanks to a concerted and always ongoing effort from our family of almost 20 carrier divisions, our internal team are all held accountable and kept on the same page with technology systems that share updates across all parties in real time. Our larger logistics network is thoroughly vetted with Highway and other tools to detect email and phone fraud. Irregularities are identified quickly and acted upon in rapid response, thanks to a combination of tech tools and diligent operator review.

How does your supply chain weather uncertainty? Have you made drayage, transloading and trucking a reliable and flexible part of your operations yet?”
